قال الرئيس جوزاف عون لوزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان نويل بارو إن لبنان «يرحب بأي ترتيب يضمن وجوداً دولياً في الجنوب» إذا تعذّر تمديد ولاية اليونيفيل.

وكان مجلس الأمن قد قرر في آب 2025 إنهاء مهمة اليونيفيل في 31 كانون الأول 2026، فيما أبدت فرنسا وإيطاليا نيتهما تشكيل قوة متعددة الجنسيات بعد ذلك. وأكد عون أن إسرائيل لم تلتزم بالاتفاق الإطاري الموقّع في حزيران.

ويتوجه وفد عسكري لبناني إلى تامبا في ولاية فلوريدا الثلاثاء لمحادثات مع ضباط أميركيين وإسرائيليين.
