Third group of convicted Syrian prisoners to be handed to Damascus soon, says Mitri
Two groups totalling about 265 inmates have already been transferred under February's agreement.
Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri told Al Jazeera that a third batch of Syrian prisoners convicted in Lebanon will soon be handed over to Damascus, Lebanon Debate reported.
Under an agreement signed in February, Lebanon is transferring more than 300 Syrian inmates to serve their sentences in Syria. A first group of about 136 left in March and a second of 128 in June, according to Enab Baladi.
The transfers ease pressure on Lebanon's overcrowded prisons, notably Roumieh.
