Berri tells French ministers Lebanon wants UNIFIL to stay
The Speaker says Lebanon has complied with Resolution 1701 and urges pressure on Israel.
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Minister Delegate Alice Rufo that Lebanon's authorities and people "remain united in their support for the continued presence" of UN peacekeepers in the south, LBCI reported.
Berri said Lebanon "has complied and continues to comply" with Resolution 1701, accused Israel of repeated violations, and called for coordinated international action. UNIFIL's mandate ends on 31 December; France and Italy are exploring a follow-on force.
