Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma after surgery at Rome's Gemelli hospital to remove the lower lobe of his right lung, the Vatican said in a medical bulletin. The operation lasted about 90 minutes and was described as successful, without complications.
The Vatican said doctors were not yet discussing chemotherapy or other therapy, pending results from lymph nodes removed during the operation. The 71-year-old pontiff woke normally and returned to his room after a short period of observation.
The Pope's 2025 visit to Lebanon remains close to the hearts of Lebanese Christians at home and abroad. Lebanese Lobby joins parishes across Lebanon and the diaspora in praying for the Holy Father's full recovery.
