Industry minister courts French employers to build factories in Lebanon
Joe Issa El Khoury invites MEDEF chief Patrick Martin to lead an industrial delegation to Beirut in January.
Industry Minister Joe Issa El Khoury held talks in Paris on Monday with Patrick Martin, head of France's largest employers' federation MEDEF, to attract French investment in Lebanese industry, LBCI reported. He was accompanied by Lebanon's ambassador to France.
The talks covered joint production, technology industries and "nearshoring" models that would let French firms expand production in Lebanon and bring Lebanese manufacturers into global supply chains. El Khoury said Lebanon has the human capital and industrial know-how to be a competitive partner.
He invited Martin to lead a delegation of French industrialists to Lebanon in January, and both sides discussed holding a Lebanese industrial investment forum in Paris, to be prepared by a joint committee. The minister also met MEDEF honorary president Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux about ties with Francophone business networks.
Partnership with France and Europe remains one of Lebanon's best routes to skilled jobs and exports.
